You should endeavour following -

An selection is whorl back to previous stable version which you had preferably 15.41. To rollback -

1. Uninstall the latest version of Function - https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Uninst...

2. Install the previous stable version - https://support.office.com/en-united states of america/article/Update...

I never used annihilation after 2011. I wasn't aware that 16.12 was unstable. Is it? It is what I was given automatically to download.

It is non unstable but people have been reporting minor issues such every bit loss of previous functionalities.

In Mac, you need not upgrade / downgrade entire Office. You can simply downgrade only Give-and-take past downloading from the link provided and yous can upgrade anytime.
